Dental Implants
Boulder, Colorado
Dental implants are an ideal option to replace missing teeth. The implant serves as a replacement for your natural tooth’s root. A dental crown is attached to the implant to serve as a prosthetic tooth. Your dental implant will look and function just like your natural tooth, providing you with the most durable, long-lasting restoration to address your tooth loss.
Boulder cosmetic dentist, Dr. Gerald B. Savory, has been performing dental implant procedures since 1984, and he has the skills to help you achieve beautiful results which will blend in seamlessly with your natural teeth. Dr. Savory only performs the restoration part of the procedure. The implant phase of your procedure will be performed by an oral surgeon or select periodontist. Dr. Savory works closely with some of the finest oral surgeons and periodontists in the Boulder, Colorado area, ensuring that you will achieve exceptional results during every phase of your procedure.
Benefits of Dental Implants
Dr. Savory can match the color of your new prosthetic tooth to your adjacent natural teeth. As a result, your restoration will be undetectable to others. Since the dental implant functions as a replacement for your natural tooth’s root, it will provide the strength necessary to withstand chewing forces. Therefore, you can enjoy all of your favorite foods as if you still had all of your natural teeth.
Dental implants offer you several other important benefits, including:
- Dental implants will not slip like dentures. Therefore, you will not experience the speech problems typically associated with dentures.
- Dental implants are permanent, providing a more comfortable restoration than dentures or dental bridges.
- Dental implants do not require the removal of natural tooth structure on adjoining teeth the way a dental bridge does. Therefore, the strength of neighboring teeth will be left intact.
- Daily oral hygiene care is easier with dental implants than with other alternatives such as dentures and bridges.
Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?
At your initial consultation, Dr. Savory will conduct a thorough oral health examination to determine whether you are a suitable candidate for dental implants. It is important that you have sufficient jawbone density to accommodate the implant. If you lack the proper bone structure, Dr. Savory may recommend dental bridges or dentures as an alternative to dental implants.
For some patients, it may be possible to perform a bone graft when your natural jawbone density is not able to support the implant. At your initial consultation, Dr. Savory will let you know if this is an option for you.
Your Dental Implant Procedure
Your dental implant procedure will be completed in several stages. In the first stage, the oral surgeon will insert the titanium implant into your jawbone. It will take approximately six to twelve weeks for your jawbone to heal. During that time, your jawbone will grow around the implant, bonding it into place. This process is called osseointegration.
Once osseointegration is complete, a small titanium post, called an abutment, will be attached to your implant. Dr. Savory will then take an impression of your teeth which will be used to create your dental crown. After the crown has been constructed at the lab, Dr. Savory will place it onto the abutment.
