Dentures

Boulder, Colorado

Gunbarrel Dental Center offers dentures as an option to replace your missing teeth. Dentures are removable appliances that provide prosthetic teeth which get attached to a supporting structure. The can easily be taken out at night to be cleaned.

At your initial consultation, Boulder family dentist, Dr. Gerald B. Savory, will evaluate your overall oral health before recommending the appropriate treatment plan for your missing teeth. Depending on your unique needs, Dr. Savory may recommend dental implants or dental bridges instead of dentures.

Dentures Options

Dr. Savory offers several dentures options. He will recommend one of the following based on your unique oral health needs:

  • Full dentures
  • Partial dentures
  • Overdentures
  • Implant-supported dentures

Full dentures are used when all of your teeth are missing in either your upper arch, lower arch, or both. Dr. Savory will extract any teeth that need to be removed before your dentures are constructed. He will prepare a set of immediate dentures so your bone and gums can heal and you will never be without teeth. It may take 8-12 weeks for your gums to heal before your dentures can be placed in your mouth. Once your full dentures are placed, you will have a new set of fully functional teeth.

Partial dentures are used when only some of your teeth need to be replaced. Your partial dentures will be held in place by your remaining natural teeth, your gums and a connective structure which consists of a plastic base and a metal framework. Sometimes, dental crowns will be placed on the adjacent natural teeth in order to support your denture. Your new prosthetic teeth will then be attached to these crowns. Partial dentures will fill in the spaces left by your missing teeth, preventing your adjacent natural teeth from shifting to fill in the gap.

Overdentures are a great option for people who have been experiencing issues with ill-fitting full or partial dentures. Your overdenture will be placed using a special attachment that clasps onto your natural tooth root if it has been saved or to a dental implant.

Implant-supported dentures are an excellent option if you have sufficient bone in your jaw to support dental implants. Your implant-supported denture can snap right onto the implants, providing a firm fit. They are generally better suited to replace teeth in your lower jaw where regular dentures are less stable.
