Dentures in Boulder, CO

Modern dentures are a great way to replace any number of missing teeth. Dr. Barone will design your dentures to look natural and help your smile function again. Gunbarrel Dental Center offers several different types of dentures patient’s various needs. We can provide you with traditional dentures or dentures secured with dental implants.

Traditional Dentures

Traditional dentures have been around for many decades and have help people restore their smile. With advances in dental technology, they have gotten more natural looking. There are two types: complete dentures and partial dentures.

Partial dentures will fill in the gaps when you are missing some, but not all, of your real teeth. They help you chew food and keep your smile looking good. Partial dentures are made to fit your mouth and are held in place with metal clasps or clear clips. You can take them out to clean them. They are a good way to help your mouth work right until you can get a more lasting fix.

Dr. Barone may suggest complete dentures if you have lost all your real teeth in the top or bottom part of your mouth. These dentures allow you to eat, talk, and smile like before. We will custom-make them to fit each person’s mouth. They are made from various materials, including acrylic resin. Complete dentures rest on your gums and you can take them out for cleaning. They help keep the shape of your face and can give someone back their confidence to smile.

Locator Retained Overdentures

Dr. Barone provides patients with modern dentures that may be removable or fixed with dental implants. Unlike traditional dentures, these options do not require adhesive to stay in place.

This implant-secured option is a great option for patients missing full tooth arches. While dental implants provide stability to the smile, patients can still conveniently remove their dentures. The overdenture comprises false teeth on a pink resin base that fits over the gums. Button-like fittings, called locators, are fixed in place with dental implants. Implants are artificial tooth roots made of titanium metal.

To begin treatment with locator retained overdentures, Dr. Barone will take impressions of your mouth to create a temporary denture. She will take images of the mouth to plan the implant placement. An oral surgeon places the implants. Over time, the implants will fuse with the jaw bone. Patients can continue to wear their temporary dentures.

Once the implants heal, we take impressions with the locator buttons on the implant posts. These impressions are used to create the overdenture. When the overdenture is complete, we will remove the temporary denture and place the overdenture. Dr. Barone may require multiple fittings to ensure that the overdenture feels comfortable.

Fixed Hybrid Dentures

Also known as “Teeth in a Day,” fixed hybrid dentures are a non-removable option for patients with full arches of missing teeth. Fixed hybrid dentures also utilize dental implants to stay in place. These dentures are made of false teeth on a pink resin base. The base contains a metal structure that fits over the existing gums.

To begin treatment, Dr. Barone takes an impression of the treated area to create temporary dentures. When the temporary dentures are complete, Dr. Barone will take x-rays to plan the implant placement. Then, the oral surgeon places the implants in the jaw bone. If the implants can handle the force of the bite, they will attach abutments and a temporary denture to the implants.

After the implants fuse with the jaw bone, we will take new impressions for the final denture. As with locater retained overdentures, Dr. Barone will ensure that patients feel comfortable with their new smile and their bite is aligned properly.

Choosing Dental Implants Over Traditional Dentures

Finding the best way to replace teeth is vital to your health and well-being if you have missing teeth. Some people get dentures, while others choose dental implants to secure their dentures. Dental implants are often a better choice than dentures for several reasons.

Dentures secured with dental implants feel and work more like your real teeth. The implants are placed right into your jawbone, helping to secure the denture better. The denture will not slip or move when you talk or eat. This makes it easier to enjoy your favorite foods without worry. Traditional dentures, on the other hand, can sometimes feel loose and may even fall out if you are not careful.

When you use dental implants, your jawbone will not deteriorate and stay healthy. When you lose a tooth, your jawbone can start to shrink. Teeth implants are special because they act like a new tooth root and strengthen your bone. Dentures sit on your gums and do not stop bone loss.

The dental implants will also last a long time. If you take care of them, they can last for many years, sometimes your whole life. While you may need to replace the denture from normal wear and tear, it will still last longer than a traditional denture. You will need to replace that every few years.
